        • CPT-G ProTork: Program up to 10 set values and select, light and buzzers guide to targeting torque. Designed just for tightening.

Over Torque Prevention

To help ensure proper tightening without over torque, specialty torque wrench mechanisms are available:

  • Rotary Slip (Screwdriver): Clicks at set torque but ratchets without applying more torque past click. [Ref: RTD video]
  • Slip (Wrench): Cam action mechanism generates 45 degree slip. [Ref: QSPCA video]
  • Two Step Motion (Wrench): Clicks at set torque value with 5 degree toggle, then there is a 14 degree “free zone” where torque will not increase, then a 2nd and final click alerts the user to stop applying force.
  • Break Over (Wrench): 90 degree “breaking” upon reaching set torque value. [Ref: NSP video]

Specialty Tightening Applications

  • Bi-Directional: Basic click wrenches tighten and control torque only in a clockwise direction. A specialty mechanism for tightening control in CW and CCW directions is available. [Ref: BQSP]
  • Torque and Angle: For applying a snug torque followed by a specific degree of angle (CTA2WQL). [Ref: CTA video]
  • Click Wrench with Torque Data Capture: Click wrench with torque sensor sends actual applied torque value to display CD5 via cable [Ref: CSPLD / CSPLDC] or wirelessly to Receiver/PC.

Type of Head

Basic click wrenches come with a ratcheting square drive head fixed onto the body of the wrench. Various applications may require other types of head styles:

Error Proofing

Often times in repetitive assembly, human error may occur where tightening of a fastener is missed. To assist the user, and confirm completion of all tightening work torque tools can be equipped to verify tightening completion:

  • Limit Switch/Micro Switch: Features a small contact relay switch that is triggered when the torque setting is achieved. The signal is then relayed via cable to a PLC or Count Checker (CNA-4mk2). The work process can be counted and confirmed. (RTDLS / RNTDLSQLLSCLLSTiQLLSPQLLSPCLLSCSPLSSPLS-NRSPLS) [Ref: RTDLS video and CNA-4mk2 video]
  • Radio Frequency (RF) Model FH Wireless: Features wireless transmitter that counts the number of fasteners, and sends a signal via 2.4 GHz frequency to the receiver box, which can then be connected to PLC or CNA-4mk2 Count Checker. (FH256MC)
  • Ink/Paint Marking Torque Wrench: Specialty wrench that incorporates a marker into a specialized socket that moves down and marks the top/side of fastener only when torque value is achieved. Also available with FH transmitter.
  • Counting with Applied Torque Data: Features capture of actual applied torque which is sent along with counting feature.

Manual Torque Tools for Measuring/Inspection

Basic torque tools for measuring feature a scale with an indicator pointer or a digital display. Used primarily to determine the torque of a fastener that has already been tightened, these tools perform a loosening or re-tightening test. Loosening requires that the fastener be loosened and then it would have to be re-tightened after inspection. The more popular method is re-tightening which requires the fastener to be tightened again just until the fastener starts to move.

Indicating Torque Tools for Measuring

  • Flat Beam (Torque Wrench): Deflection beam scale with the main pointer.
    • Attributes: Durable and accurate when pulled at force point, measures the deflection of spring on scale plate. Some variation is a possible inaccuracy of reading scale.
  • Dial Indicating: Dial scale with main and memory pointer.
    • Attributes: Easy to use, comfort handle, not length-dependent with torsion bar. Some variation is possible with the reading scale but has a memory pointer to retain peak torque.
  • Digital: Digital display with data capture.
    • Attributes: Easy to use, captures peak torque with a strain gauge, exact confirmation, and storage of peak torque.

Types of Heads

Basic analog wrenches feature non-ratcheting square drive and digital features ratcheting square drive.
